Soldiers of 66th Artillery Regiment in Ho will donate blood to the Blood Bank of the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho to herald the Yam Festival of the chiefs and people of the Asogli State every year.Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Kotia, Commanding Officer of the Regiment, gave the hint in Ho on Wednesday when he led soldiers from the Regiment to donate blood to the Blood Bank.He said the pre-festival exercise would not preclude other organized donations by the soldiers, who the hospital officials said, were a major source of blood supply to the Blood Bank.Lt. Col. Kotia observed that a donor of blood could be a recipient of donation in the future since anybody could need blood under emergency transfusion. He said, "Your blood could be saving your own lives or that of your relatives."Lt. Col Kotia said the exercise was part of the policy of the Regiment to sustain the military-civilian rapport in the region.Mr. Vincent Fekpe, in charge of the Blood Bank, appealed to individuals and institutions to donate blood to the Blood Bank.He said there was normally shortage of blood at the Hospital when schools in the Ho township went on vacation since students represented the largest identifiable group of regular donors of blood.Source: GNA
