Parliament has convened again in less than a week, for the swearing into office of Speaker, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye as acting President until January 31.
This is to fill the vacuum created by the absence of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who has left the country for Ethiopia to participate in the 30th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU).
From there he will go to South Africa where he is expected to attend Hugh Masekela's funeral.
Prof. Oquaye would once again stand in for the president and his vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who has since last week, been on medical leave in the UK.
JoyNews Parliamentary Correspondent, Joseph Opoku Gakpo reports the House reconvened at 9am Saturday, January 27, 2018, while the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo administered the Oaths of Office and Allegiance.
Last Sunday, Prof Oquaye had to take the oath in an emergency sitting in Parliament when President Akufo-Addo travelled to Liberia to witness the inauguration ceremony of its new president, George Weah.

Meanwhile, some Members of Parliament are unimpressed with the development. In an interview with Joseph, they described the process as “very disorganizing”.
Member of Parliament for Kunbungu, Ras Mubarak says he will go to the Supreme Court to seek a review of the Court's previous orders in a case brought by Prof. Stephen Kwaku Asare which allows a new swearing-in anytime the president and vice are out of the country.
