There was chaos at the Police HQ in Accra where MP for Assin North, Kennedy Agyapong was held over possible charges of treason in connection with comments he made on radio on Friday.
His lawyers say he could be charged with treason.
Scores of New Patriotic Party supporters stormed the Police Headquarters chanting patriotic songs and pelting police officials with stones following attempts by the police to move Kennedy Agyapong to an undisclosed location.
Joy News' Anny Osabutey said the police brought in water cannons and fire rubber bullets to scare the supporters away.
Lawyers for Agyapong were hoping to secure bail for the Assin North MP whose claims to declare war over alleged police inaction in the face of political violence over the biometric exercise has been described as treasonable.
He was put in a van and driven away to an unknown destination from the Police HQ where he spent most part of the day.
The supporters who had converged at the Police HQ were angered that the MP would not be released and started pelting the police with stones.
It was later learnt that the MP had been taken to the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and was likely to spend the night there.
