The Head of Policy Monitoring and Evaluation Unit at the Presidency, Dr Tony Aidoo says he doubts if Mr Ken Agyapong is sincerely remorseful about ‘treasonable’ comments he made a few weeks ago.The Assin North Member of Parliament (MP) was granted bail by the Human Rights Court and the Fast Track High Court last Thursday after his arrest and subsequent detention by the police.Mr Agyapong, immediately after his release, went to the headquarters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and said that he had no evil intention against other tribes. Some big wigs of the party as well as his supporters in the Assin North district have begged for his forgiveness. But Dr Tony Aidoo, speaking on Alhaji and Alhaji on Radio Gold last Saturday, was unconvinced that Ken or the NPP has truly regretted his utterances which Dr Aidoo said cosuld have plunged the nation into anarchy.
Notwithstanding the plea for forgiveness, he said, the attempt to rationalize Ken’s conduct on the basis of post event concept of selective justice manifests hypocrisy on the part of the NPP.“And I begin to wonder whether the pleas for forgiveness are really honest,” he said.He chided ex-president Kufuor for allegedly attacking President Mills for his failure to “translate his executive power into administrative procedures to instructs the police as to what to do in this instance, and to the extent that Mills is not prepared to do so he must be held responsible.”“I can’t stand hypocrisy and dishonesty…,” he maintained.
