Administrator of the Tamale Regional Hospital, Mr. George Atampogri is being investigated for alleged extortion.
Mr. Atampogri is alleged to have collected money from some staff of the hospital, which he claimed was to be paid to Ministry of Health officials in Accra.
Mr. Atampogri is said to have demanded between ¢3 million and ¢4 million in April 2007 after the workers were paid their salaries.
One of the workers of the hospital, Issifu Salam who works as a driver told Joy News that he paid ¢4 million to the Administrator in April.
Mr. Atampogri has denied the allegations, but the Chief Executive of the Hospital, Dr. Tapang has confirmed the allegations to Joy News and said the matter will be handed over to the police for further investigations.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has recently confirmed the appointment of the workers.
