A Chinese national and his Ghanaian schoolboy friend have drowned in a river at Fahiakobo in the Amansie Central District of Ashanti.
The Chinese, a 50-year-old identified only as J.J. was on a fishing expedition with his primary 5 pupil, Yaw Boakye when the tragedy occurred.
Local police have confirmed the incident and say they are investigating.
Residents of the community told Nhyira News the Chinese national picked the young boy as usual from his house Tuesday afternoon for the expedition, during which the boy reportedly slipped and fell into the water. J.J. is reported to have jumped in after his friend but the two drowned.
Their bodies have been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital morgue in Kumasi for autopsy.
