The Convention People’s Party has said that filing of nominations for contestable positions within the Party would begin from Monday October 8 and close on Monday October 22, this year.
A statement signed by Dr. Nii Noi Dowuona, General Secretary of the Party said vetting of aspirants for the party’s flag bearer position would also start on Monday October 25, this year.
It said the decision was taken at the party's biennial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Accra last Tuesday during which it discussed programme activities leading to the 3rd National Congress to elect national executives and a presidential candidate for the 2008 general elections.
The meeting was attended by members of the Central Committee, National officers, Members of Parliament, the Regional Steering Committees and representatives of the Council of Elders, Women’s League, Youth League, Overseas Branches and Tertiary Institutions.
According to the statement, after filing of nominations, the Party would hold its Party's Executive Council meeting and Congress in November, this year.
It said during the intervening period, it was expected that the ongoing exercise to elect officers in the constituencies would be completed, adding that party conferences would also take place to elect regional officers based on proper guidelines starting with the Ashanti Region on October 13, this year.
The CPP also expressed sympathy to victims of the flood disaster in the Northern Region and called on state institutions in-charge of physical planning to review the present state of settlements in all parts of the country to keep physical structures away from flood prone areas.
