A seventy-five year old woman has been arrested by the police on suspicion she may have killed her own grandchild.
Esther Tackie is said to have been arrested when she attempted to dispose of the body of the eight-month-old baby at a refuse dump at Korle Gonno in Accra.
Zoomlion employees in charge of the dump-site are said to have discovered the baby dressed in a green sweater and hidden in a cloth upon interrogation of Madam Tackie whose appearance they found suspicious.
The corpse has since been deposited at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for autopsy.
Greater Accra Regional Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey told Joy News they are preparing the suspect for court on a provisional charge of murder, while they search for the parents of the baby.
He said investigations are continuing to establish the cause of death.
