A former Accountant of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, George Kofi Baah is in the grips of the law for allegedly stealing an amount of ¢3 billion belonging to the Assembly.
According to the facts available to the court George Baah was working with the Assembly until he got a new job with Prestige Motors, agents of Peugeot cars in the country.
The accountant who succeeded the accused realised an amount of ¢3 billion being money meant to be paid as taxes to the Internal Revenue Service between August 2000 and September 2006 was missing although receipts indicated that the money had been paid.
He subsequently reported the case to his superiors who in turn reported the case to the police.
The Presiding Judge ordered that the accused be put in prison custody since according to the prosecuting officer the police were still investigating the case.
