The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu has expressed reservations about reports that some Muslim faithful in second cycle schools are being compelled by authorities to attend church services. Speaking at a three-day Ramadan conference in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo region, the Chief Imam said the issue had the potential of undermining national peace if not properly handled. Spokesperson for the Chief Imam, Alhaji Mohammed Gado told Joy News, that they were hopeful ongoing talks to rectify the problem will be successful. The issue was first highlighted in 2008 when a Muslim student at Adisadel College in Cape Coast jumped to his death. He was said to have been fleeing a hot chase from his head teacher who was insisting he attend the school church service.
