Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will compel President Akufo-Addo to accommodate dissenting views.
His comments come as a reaction to the President’s “castigation of the opposition NDC” for staging strong opposition to the Gh-US military cooperation agreement.
The President addressed the nation earlier after public outcry over the agreement but the NDC took offense at the manner he spoke.
Many minority MPs including Ranking member on Foreign Affairs committee, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa insisted that the President merely criticized his political opponents instead of addressing the details of the deal.
Speaking at a demonstration in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale, to register displeasure with the military cooperation agreement, Haruna Iddrisu lambasted the President, asking him to make room for opposing views.
“…let him be reminded that Ghana is a democratic state and there is room for dissent…he must be prepared to accommodate dissent. He is compelled to live with dissent and we will compel him to live with dissent,” Mr. Iddrisu told the demonstrators Saturday.

The demonstration was organized by the Ghana First Patriotic Front, a pressure group mostly constituted by a coalition of opposition political parties.
They held the first march last month in Accra which saw about 2000 persons pouring onto the streets of the capital.
Leading member of the group, Edem Agbana, said that the demonstration is expected to take place in each of the 10 regions in Ghana.
The majority in Parliament has called the naught of their colleagues on the other side insisting that they entered into a similar agreement during their tenure.
Parliament ratified the agreement last month although Haruna Iddrisu led the Minority to stage a walkout.
