ORGANISERS of Soccerex has announced that former World European and African footballer, George Weah, would join England and Manchester United former captain and the club’s current ambassador, Bryan Robson, as part of a star-studded session on The Beautiful Game at the Soccerex Seminar Lagos, holding on September 27 and 28.
Starting his career at West Bromwich Albion, Robson moved to Manchester United, where he made 461 appearances for the club. He became the longest serving captain in the club’s history, scoring 99 goals in the process.
He is regarded as one of the finest players ever to play for the club and was voted the club’s greatest player from a poll of United’s former players. He was capped 90 times by England and earned the nickname, Captain Marvel, for his heroic performances in an England shirt.
After retiring from the game, he returned to the club as a Manchester United Ambassador in 2008, where his role alongside Sir Bobby Charlton is to promote the club’s commercial and charitable aims worldwide.
The Beautiful Game session will involve a selection of football legends, including Robson and Weah, discussing the latest issues affecting the game but will also look back at some memorable moments from their glittering careers, including Robson’s trophy-winning days at United and Weah’s incredible career that saw him crowned World, European and African footballer of the year in 1995.
