Tension is brewing among NDC supporters in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem, KEEA constituency in the Central Region following reservations raised against the re-election of the incumbent MP, Dr. J S Annan for the 2012 elections.
Reports say the regional and constituency executives are under pressure to replace the incumbent with former MP for the area Dr. Ato Quarshie. There are said to be deep cracks within the party over the development. But both the incumbent MP, Dr. J. S. Annan who is also the Deputy Trade Minister and Dr. Ato Quarshie are tight-lipped.
Speaking to Joy FM Friday, NDC Central Regional Communications Director Allotey Jacobs admitted that there were agitations among the party’s grassroots at the KEEA constituency who believe that the delegates that re-elected Dr. J.S. Annan committed a political blunder.
According to Allotey Jacobs, the party’s grassroots are of the opinion that Dr. Ato Quarshie is in a better stead to retain the seat for the party in the upcoming General elections.
The Communications Director also admitted that the Regional executives of the party are in favour of Dr. Ato Quarshie adding that the re-election of Dr. Annan rather created a rift at both the constituency and regional levels of the party.
Allotey Jacobs stated that a decision which would be in the supreme interest of the party would be taken on the matter hinting of a possible re-engineering that could see the incumbent MP Dr. J.S Annan who won the primaries prevailed upon to step down for Dr. Ato Quarshie who lost the primaries.
