The visiting Former President of Mauritius, Mr Karl Auguste Offmann, on Thursday said Former Presidents of Africa were prepared to share their rich experience and expertise with current leaders to enhance the development of the Continent. He said "Africa's Former Presidents are ready to give their time and knowledge freely to the benefit of Africa, we want to share our vision before we are called by God, and we want to be at the service of our people". President Offmann gave the assurance during a courtesy call on Nana Ato Arthur, Central Regional Minister in Cape Coast as part of his five-day visit to the country. The visit is at the instance of African Archives and Research Centre (APARC) Programme for Former African Presidents. He said although his country lacked mineral resources such as gold and diamond, it had fully developed the tourism industry and through hard work Mauritius had made some achievements. President Offmann said with the development of the tourism industry, the number of tourists that visited Mauritius was expected to increase to about 900,000 tourists by the end of the year and to about 2.2 million tourists yearly by 2050. He said Mauritius was prepared to assist Ghana develop her tourism industry, adding that Ghana "was blessed" with a lot of natural and human resources and would succeed "with a little effort". Nana Arthur, commended President Offmann and Mauritius for being classified among the first in good governance in Africa, and attributed it to good leadership. He briefed him about the historical and educational importance of the Region, but expressed concern about the collapse of vital industries such as Komenda Sugar Factory, Saltpond Ceramics, Pomadze Poultry Farms and Cape Coast Citrus and Flavours Factory. Nana Arthur appealed to President Offmann to assist to revamp some of them as well as the development of tourism in the Region.
