The Agbogbomefia of the Ho Asogli State, Togbui Afede XIV, has expressed worry about what he says is the marginalization meted out to some chiefs in the country.
He said some government officials continue to show disrespect for some chiefs as they allow their favourite chiefs to enjoy some privileges and deny others of same.
Togbe Afede was speaking at this year’s yam festival in Ho where Joy News’ Volta Regional Correspondent, Agbeko Ben Coffie says the respected chief attributed the incidence partly to tribalism, and warned of the dangers that such behaviours could engender.
He indicated that some chiefs pursue foreign investment drives as ordinary Ghanaians with virtually no support whatsoever from diplomatic missions abroad, while others are issued diplomatic passports by government to travel and facilitate business as well.
According to him, there is the need to tolerate and respect one another and ensure that cultural and ethnic values of every traditional authority are promoted.
Togbui Afede said during a recent trip to China in search of business for the country, the Ghanaian Ambassador at the time failed to grant audience to the Asogli Traditional Council, but the same ambassador did not only grant audience to a similar delegation from another traditional authority, but actually accompanied the delegation during their tour of that country.
He explained that tribalism is the cause of many conflicts in the continent and said the nation must ensure it does not take centre stage in the nation’s politics.
