Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has described as needless the claim of the slogan People Matter, You Matter by the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Akomea wondered why the Mills-led administration finds it important to battle the NPP for a slogan whiles Ghanaians who voted them to power languish in abject poverty.
The NPP Communications Director was responding to the claim of his party’s Manifesto title for the December polls by the NDC on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday.
The NPP said its choice of the “People Matter, You Matter” slogan dates back in 2011 by the party’s Manifesto Committee to give its campaign a human face.
But the NDC say the slogan is its bonafide property and as a social democratic party, it best suit them as a party which cares for the ordinary people.
However, Nana Akomea expressed dismay at the ruling party’s position since according to him, there are more pressing issue confronting Ghanaians.
He noted that despite the NDC's claim of the slogan, its policies and programmes even in government does not reflect its social democratic credentials.
Nana Akomea added that the sophisticated Ghanaian electorates would be the best judges to decide which political party has their interest at heart at the December polls.
The NPP man indicated that members of the ruling party who professes to be social democrats are now looting the state coffers to enrich themselves hence have no moral right to lay claim of the slogan.
He cited the infamous Woyomegate judgement debt scandal which he claimed some government officials aided and abetted with Mr. Woyome to rob the state as an example of the corrupt nature of government appointees.
Notwithstanding, Nana Akomea maintained that the NPP is a tried and tested political party which is committed to developing the human resource of the country.
He observed that the many social interventions rolled out by the erstwhile Kufuor administration like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), School Feeding Programme, National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), and National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) attest to the fact that the NPP is socially minded.
The NPP Communications Director added that his party's manifesto to be launched on August 25 has many policies and programmes that will redeem Ghanaians from hardships the NDC has plunged them into when voted to power.
Nana Akomea urged government to concentrate on fulfilling its much espoused Better Ghana Agenda before it is booted out of power.
