The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has been thrown into state of mourning following the dead of the country’s president Prof John Evans Atta Mills Tuesday.
The president died at the 37 Military Hospital Tuesday afternoon after he checked in to seek medical treatment.
A statement released by the musicians’ body Wednesday and signed by its president, Bice Osei Kuffour popularly known as Obour said they have received the news of Mills’ death with a heavy heart.
The statement, which was copied Myjoyonline.com, said “We express our sympathies and condolences to the widow, Madam Naadu Mills, the family and the ruling National Democratic Congress.”
It added that, “We cannot begin to imagine the pain and sorrow that overwhelm you at this time. We pray that God will grant you and the entire nation the fortitude to bear this loss.”
The statement, however, noted that MUSIGA is comforted by the fact that the President was “an exemplary leader who served his people and left a legacy.”
MUSIGA asked that God grant the President a safe haven and also keep him in His bosom until we meet again.
“We the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) would forever have him in our memories for his support for the Music Industry,” the statement concluded.
Under the leadership of President Mills, the government for the first time made a two-million Ghana cedi (GH¢2,000,000) package to boost the Ghanaian music industry in the 2012 budget.
