The Appointments Committee of Parliament has recommended to Members of the House to approve by consensus, the nomination of Mr Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as vice president.The committee vetted Mr Amissah-Arthur Monday following his nomination by President John Mahama for the position which became vacant after he (Mahama) ascended to the presidency in the wake of the death of President John Atta Mills.A four-page report of the Committee on the vetting is to be laid before the House for debate in the next hour.Joy News' Sammy Darko reported that Members of Parliament, the police, journalists, and family members of the nominee are all seated awaiting the laying of the report, the debate and the approval and subsequently, a swearing-in.Mr Amissah-Arthur's three-hour vetting ended at 1pm. He answered questions on the economy, politics, the depreciation of the cedi amongst others.Majority Leader Cletus Avoka told Joy News the committee is still processing the report to be vetted by the chairman of the committee and the ranking members.He said the Chief Justice has been asked to stand by to swear-in the vice president shortly.Avoka revealed he had picked up snippets of information from the draft report of the committee and they have recommended approval by consensus.Joy News’ Bernard Saibu who is on the floor of Parliament reported that family members and NDC party bigwigs are still present waiting anxiously for the vice-presidential designate to be sworn into office.
