FA Cup champions New Edubiase say they will play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup after beating Ashanti Gold to the slot last Sunday in the cup final.
Last season’s winner FC Nania from the first division pulled out of the competition but New Edubiase does not plan to repeat that despite the heavy financial commitments needed.
Edubiase is bankrolled by businessman and CEO of fertilizer giant SIDALCO David Lamptey and the former Member of Parliament is said to have assured the team of competing in Africa.
Spokesperson of the club Adams Abdul Salam explains to JOY Sports they are ready to participate in the continental competition.
“We didn’t win because we wanted the trophy but going to Africa was on our mind”. Said Abdul Salam
“It was a distant notion but now it is on us and we are very much prepared for it. We are aware of the challenges involved but we have the word of our sponsors, president and management and now we look certain to play in Africa”
Players and the coaching team of New Edubiase are set to receive record winning bonuses and rewards for winning the MTN FA Cup title last Sunday after beating Ashanti Gold 1-0 in Accra. Players will receive 5,000 Cedis each while technical team members each drive home new cars
