District Chief Executive for Kwahu East Isaac Agyapong has cut the sod for the construction of an Ultra Modern Market with ancillary facilities for the people of Hweehwee in the Kwahu East district of the Eastern Region as part of the area's new infrastructural development plan.
The market is expected to boost the district's local economy and improve the living standard of its people. It was established by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah over sixty years ago. Currently, conditions there are dire.
Though the market has not had a facelift for the more than 60 years, it is still one of the most patronized and vibrant markets in the district. The market is surrounded by over 15 dominant farming communities, where farmers bring their produce to sell.
The market, expected to be completed in 6 months, will have over 50 sheds and other anemities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Agyapong charged the contractor of the project, Master Hand Construction Company Limited, to complete it in six months.

The chiefs and elders of Hweehwee thanked Agyapong for constructing the market that they say will create a bigger opportunity for farmers in the area.
The chiefs pledged their support to the DCE to enable him to develop the area.
They also expressed their appreciation to MP Abetifi Bryan Acheampong, for solving the Fulani Menace within the area.
"We can now do more farming and produce more food to sell at our new market,” said Hweehwee chief Nana Amoafo Boamah IV.

After the program, Agyapong inspected some ongoing projects and also commissioned a footbridge for the people of Demoano, a suburb of Abene.
Farmers in Demoano were finding it difficult to go to their farms during the rainy season due to the broken down footbridge on their farms.
