On that Black Tuesday, both the old and young were
left to weepHis demise drew sorrows from all corners and they
were deepHe had a very mild and meek character like
the sheepHis fond memories with us, we shall
forever keepWe shall forever remember that day; 24th July, 2012
was the dateIt was only three days after his birthday and he left
at sixty eightAt all his appointments on earth, he was on time and
never lateWe believe he was warmly and joyfully welcomed at the
Heaven’s gateHis term of office he could not finish but the race of life
he wonTo his loved ones, it was hard to believe he was
forever goneBecause he was such an illustrious son of the land,
oh dear John!Though he is gone, his legacy will forever remain and still
live onDespite all the challenges he faced, he maintained his character and
stood tallHe lived a fulfilled life and kept his promise as the father
for allHis dear nation wanted him but he had to answer his
Maker’s callOn that Black Tuesday, we never knew a great son of the land
would fallFrom the lips of many came numerous words
of slanderBut he never retaliated and this made
people wonderHe never took sides to put his dear
nation asunderAnd he proved this by not being a
cat hunterHe was never ashamed, his faith he
openly proclaimedTo some, he was too good and honest for the so called
dirty gameSo they could not bear it when people insulted his
honourable nameTo them, his death has rather put his enemies
to shameOthers also believe he was hounded out of
the waySo the hungry political vultures could have
their dayBecause they could not stand him for doing politics in a
civil wayOh dear John, we never thought you will leave us
this wayAs a leader, his name was tossed back and forth like
a diceBut he kept on preaching peace and harmony because that was healthy
and niceTo some; whilst his death was a great loss to the nation it was also a
political sacrificeSo that Ghanaians will learn from his character and be
politically wiseRaymond Tetteh
