Telecommunication giants MTN has donated cash and some assorted items to the National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheikh Usumanu Nuhu Sharabutu, ahead of the celebration of this year’s Eid ul-Fitr.
The premier telecommunication company in the country presented an amount of GHC5, 000, 10 bags of rice, five cartons of vegetable oil, 15 boxes of mineral water, 20 packs of soft drinks, a ram, airtime worth GH¢ 500.00 to the Chief Imam to aid in the celebration of the Eid ul-Fitr.
Speaking during the presentation of the items, Senior Manager for Customer Service and Credit Management, Salihu Abu, extended season greetings from staff and management of MTN to all Muslims in the country.
He explained that said the motive behind the donation was to share in the celebration of the Eid ul-Fitr and also to strengthen the relationship between his outfit and the Muslim community.
“In a few days’, Ramadan would be coming to an end and Muslims in Ghana and around the world will be celebrating Eid ul -Fitr. The end of Ramadan is a time of joy as we extol the values of the Islamic faith; empathy, charity, holiness and patience.
"We at MTN believe that these values help us in cultivating relationships and forging a better and stronger social fabric as a people," he added.
He further said, “for this reason, we are here today to extend our warmest regards and most sincere wishes from the Management and staff of MTN to you for the relationship we have enjoyed with the Muslim Community over the past 11 years”.
As a result of our long-standing relationship, MTN Ghana has over the past 11 years extended its support to the Muslim community in various ways such as the annual donation to National Chief Iman, Regional Chief Imans in Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale and sponsorship of Sallafest in Nima and Accra Newtown.
"We continue to support the Hajj Board with our products to facilitate their work. Last year, MTN refurbished the lodging area at Hajj Village with over GHc200,000’, he concluded.
Sheikh Yunusah Osman Mohammed who received the items on behalf of the Chief Imam, thanked MTN for the donation, adding that the company has made it a point and duty to support the Imam and fellow Muslims and that they [Muslims] were grateful.
Sheikh Yunusah prayed for Allah’s blessings on the staff of MTN and urged all Muslims in the country to ensure that there’s peace during and after the celebration of the festival.
