Popular Television news anchor, Gideon Aryeequaye has lost his bid to represent the ruling National Democratic Congress at the newly created Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfrom constituency of Accra.
The Head of News at e-TV Ghana managed 63 votes as against his main contender, Bright Edem Kojo who polled 112 in an election which was supervised by the Electoral Commission and some NDC regional executives.
This is the second time Gideon Aryeequaye attempted to lead the NDC as he lost his first attempt to represent then Weija Constituency primaries prior to the 2008 Parliamentary elections, fell short. He was beaten by Sherriff Otto-Duodu who lost the eventual contest to incumbent Shirley Ayorkor Botway in the 2008 Parliamentary elections.
In a related development, Radio Gold’s Obuobea Darko-Opoku won the Weija-Gbawe constituency primaries with 128 votes beating her closest contender Samuel Asamoah who secured only 46 votes.
She thus gets the nod to represent the NDC in the newly created constituency in December, 7th elections.
The Weija constituency has been split into three; Anyaa-Sowutuom, Bortianor- Ngleshie-Amanfrom and Weija-Gbawe constituencies.
The election in the Anyaa-Sowutuom is being contested by Chief Executive Officer for National Youth Authority Mrs. Sedina Tamakloe, Carl Wilson and Emmanuel Allotey.
