The Australian High Commissioner, Billy Williams is confident Ghana would benefit immensely from the three day mining conference to be held in Perth, Australia. The conference dubbed “Africa Down Under’ has been slated for between August 29 and 31. It will bring together about 2000 delegates made up of public and private sector players from mining countries.Mr. Williams says Ghana could attract more Australian mining interests.“Australia is a big mining country and that experience in mining has been transferred in Africa. The conference is a way for Ghana to promote itself to the Australia mining interests and encourage more investments from Australia in Ghana through presentation from Ghana and Australia” he said.
Mr. Williams added the Australian government is committed to improving the expertise of Ghanaian mining professionals.“This is part of an initiative launched last year called the International Mining development centre whose focus is to support the capacity development and governance of the mining industry across Africa. Ghana is a priority country for Australia in this respect and so you would see courses and training workshops being organized to build capacity from our own experience whilst supporting the environmental regulations among others” he noted. The Africa Down under conference has been ongoing for ten years.
