A member of the communication team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) wants to capitalized on former President John Kufuor’s statesmanship to win the December polls.
Mr Agbenyo indicated that the former President’s comment about the Electoral Commission’s (EC)intention to create 45 additional constituencies was borne out of incessant pressures from the NPP.
“Considering what we have seen of President Kufuor in the last three-and half years, I can conveniently say that he was pushed by NPP leadership to say what he said about the EC on Saturday" Agbenyo said.
Former President John Agyekum Kufuor at an NPP organized rally at Mantse Agboena Saturday, warned the EC to halt the proposed creation of the 45 additional constituencies, stating that it could be a recipe for chaos in the country.
Mr. Kufuor questioned the motive behind EC’s haste to create new constituencies at a time he says the country is left with barely three months to the December general elections.
However, Fred Agbenyo on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, said former President Kufuor’s comment about the EC was below the statesmanship position he had attained in the country.
He notes that Mr. Kufuor as somebody who was the head of state for eight years, his comments are very critical as far as the administration of this country is concerned hence must be mindful of his utterances.
Fred Agbenyo said he was saddened by the former president’s conduct at the rally grounds and wondered why he [Kufuor] would allow himself to be pushed around by the NPP leadership.
The NDC Youth activist indicated the NPP in its insatiable quest for power intends to take advantage of Mr. Kufuor’s influence to win the December 7 polls.
He said the leadership of the NPP sent the former President on a mission to humiliate the EC at the party’s campaign platform.
According to him, President Kufuor in his element would have written to the Chairman of the EC, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan to express his opinion concerning the yet to be created constituencies and not criticize the EC in public.
Fred Agbenyo observed that Dr. Afari Gyan had proven beyond reasonable doubts that he was independent minded therefore not even former President Kufuor can change his mind.
