A power struggle between the flagbearer of the United Front Party and the chairman of the party yesterday degenerated into a nasty incident when the police were called into a news conference organized by the Chairman.
The news conference was to announce punitive sanctions against the flagbearer, Akwasi Addai and other executives on Sunday.
Regional Chairmen of the party following the incident have called for the arrest of the flagbearer for forgery.
The news conference by some executives of the UFP was disrupted when officers from the Striking Force Unit attempted to arrest the party’s chairman, Nana Agyenim Boateng at the instance of the flagbearer.
The executives who had gathered at the Aseda House venue of the news conference however fiercely resisted the police in a confrontation that lasted more than an hour.
The police officers were eventually withdrawn after the Regional Police Commander intervened.
The regional chairmen say they want the suspended flag bearer prosecuted because he forged their signatures on documents at an earlier news conference he organized to claim he had their backing.
The police say they will soon invite him.
The party chairman, Nana Agyenim Boateng however tells Nhyira News the search is now on for a new flagbearer.
Nana Boateng admits the ongoing power struggle could affect the UFP’s performance in the December polls.
But Akwasi Addai has denied forging signatures of the regional executives.
A personal secretary, Crosby Charles Armah tells Nhyira News he is still at post as UFP flag bearer.
Meanwhile, the UFP has announced the suspension of some of its executives, including General Secretary, Samuel Owusu Bekoe.
National Treasurer, Abu Sadique has also been dismissed outright for aligning with Friends of Nana Konadu.
