Outspoken politician, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah says the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) must endeavor to complete the Better Ghana Agenda promise before it exit power in December.
Sekou indicated that plans by President John Mahama to roll out new policies four months to the December 7 general elections, would not change the minds of the many Ghanaians who have lost confidence in the NDC administration.
President Mahama will in a live broadcast Tuesday, announce his administration’s plans and focus for the remaining four months.
The President in his address to be broadcast live on Ghana Television would outline policy initiatives based on the Better Ghana Agenda and its four thematic areas, and the key pillars of national development including fiscal and monetary policy, governance and social interventions to consolidate the gains made since 2009 under President Mills.
But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah said even though the ruling party has a new leader, the fact still remained that the NDC had failed Ghanaians.
He noted that President Mahama’s candidature in the December polls will not change the electoral fortunes of the party since according to him, he [Mahama] played a key role in the failed NDC administration.
Dr. Nkrumah added that the President Mahama must campaign on the achievements of his predecessor, the late John Mills than seeking to make himself[Mahama] popular.
“It’s too late for the NDC to tell us it would do otherwise. John Mahama has to campaign on their performance in the past three and half years because they called the shots and Ghanaians gave them that mandate” he said.
Reiterating his commitment to the opposition New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) and its flag-bearer Nana Akufo-Addo, Sekou Nkrumah said the NPP has a greater chance of winning the December elections if it did things right.
He observed that since the NDC had failed, the only alternative for Ghanaians would be the NPP, which he believed was the only party to salvage the economy.
The maverick politician cautioned the NPP not to pay heed to the petty politics and focus on the politics and programmes it intends to implement if voted to power.
Sekou Nkrumah said he was excited about the NPP’s manifesto teaser and was optimistic that it was the manifesto to take Ghana on a higher pedestal.
