Founder of the National Democratic Congress Jerry John Rawlings will surely attend Thursday’s National Delegates Congress of the ruling party.
This was confirmed by aide and spokesperson Kofi Adams in an interview with Joy News.
There were media speculations that the founder may not attend the Congress having recently had cold relationship with party leaders.
The Dispatch newspaper Editor Ben Ephson gave more credence to the speculations alleging that the wife of the founder, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was scheming to have her husband boycott the Congress.
But Kofi Adams subtly dismissed those suggestions.
He emphatically told Joy News Mr Rawlings will attend the Congress and take his rightful place as the founder of the party and will address Congress accordingly.
“Nobody will attempt to put a wedge between Rawlings and Konadu,” he said adding the two may have their differences but “they will continue to be one.”
Kofi Adams said Mr Rawlings will as usual raise his concerns to the party leaders and hope they address them.
If they don’t, he said, the founder will take any decision he deems appropriate.
Meanwhile, Joy News’ Evans Mensah reported the Baba Yara Sports Stadium is already bubbling with political excitement.
National Youth Organiser of the NDC Ludwig Hlordze in an interview said he is not surprised by the decision by Mr Rawlings to attend the Congress.
He said the founder has never missed any of the party’s Congresses and will be shocked if he misses Thursday’s.
Hlordze declared Kumasi ready for the Congress saying at the end of it the party will be more united.
