If you plan to purchase a television set especially in anticipation of the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting by 2015, you would have to be a bit mindful.
This is because the National Communications Authority is yet to issue for stakeholders, the standards specification for the supply of the appropriate digital TV sets on the market.
Dealers in Television-sets like Samsung Electronics are however optimistic this would happen before the end of the year.
The Service Manager, Frank Atta- Owusu explained further to JOY BUSINESS after a media-interaction ahead of the Samsung-Week celebrations scheduled for between September 17 and 23.
“If we migrate to T-2 transmitters, it means you cannot receive signals with the existing receivers. And so it is important that importers of television sets know the receiver standards instituted by the regulator before importing to sell to consumers” he said.
“Currently, digital television on the market range between T-1 and T-2 but even with the T-2 receivers, it is possible the regulator would come out with specifications that each receiver would have to meet. For instance if regulator requires some technology and specifications that enables it monitor what is coming in, that’s where there is could be challenges” he added.
