“Yewuyewu,” which literally means “we are dying” was the cry of the market women at Circle and Adabrakra during a visit by the wife of Nana AddoDankwaAkufo-Addo, 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to the two markets in the capital.
At Circle (behind the VVIP station), while some of the women shed tears, some sang, “we want free education. We want free education; we will all go back to school.”
Addressing the Market women at Circle, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo said judging by the achievements of the Kufuor Administration, the NPP was the best choice for the people of Ghana.
Nana Akufo -Addo, she said, will not renege on his promise of providing free Senior High School education and also improve the living conditions of Ghanaians.
“If you want to see what Nana Addo can do just vote for him. The NDC does not believe in the free SHS, we believe in it and it is only by voting for Nana Addo that we can all benefit from it,” she said.
“Vote for the best choice. NPP is the right party to lead this country,” she told the market women who were so much delighted about her visit.
The atmosphere at the Adabraka Market was no different. The market women complained about the high cost of doing business in the country. Some referred to Nana Akufo-Addo as the leader they are waiting for.
Mrs. AKufo-Addo said if her husband was given the nod to rule the country, she would ably aid him in championing the cause of women.
She disclosed that she was going to use her office as the first lady to also promote and intensify girl-child education in the country.
She urged the enthusiastic audience to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo for them to work together to improve their living standard.
She mentioned National Health Insurance Scheme, Capitation Grant, Free Maternal Care, School Feeding Programme, among other programmes, as what her husband will champion if voted into power.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo urged the public to come out in their numbers to take part in the ongoing voter’s register exhibition.
She was accompanied by the 3rd National Vice Chairperson of the NPP, Madam Sophia Horner-Sam, Deputy National Women’s Organiser, Tina Mensah, Greater Accra Regional Women’s Organiser Joyce Zempareand other party faithful.
