Inshore Fishermen are demanding a fair share of government’s planned 53 million dollar investment in the fisheries industry. The facility expected from the World Bank will be channeled into research and training, with 8 million dollars going into aqua-culture.But even before implementation in October, President of the Inshore Fisheries Association, Joe Kramoh is impressing on government the need for their sector to be allocated some substantial amount.“We have met with the ministry about the mechanism to be employed but how much money is to be invested in inshore fisheries has always not been disclosed to us” he said.He also wants government to do a lot more in addressing the issue of high input prices.“If government can bring in more of the inputs at a cheaper price and also give soft loans to the women and stakeholders, it would help cushion the industry”
