The Union of Industry Commerce and Finance Workers, UNICOF has called off its strike at Merchant bank.Members of the union at the bank yesterday began an industrial action to press for the reinstatement of its local union chairman, Reverend Jonas Koranteng-Smart.This delayed opening of its head office to customers as the main entrance to the bank was locked off.It also disrupted its money transfer services. General Secretary of UNICOF, Francis Davoh spoke to JOY-BUSINESS.
“We have decided to hold on in the light of some some developments yesterday. We received a letter from the Labour Commission informing us that the matter was before the courts and that it would advise that we stay any action pending the hearing in court” he said.
And after considering the options we agreed that it doesn’t pay to show disrespect to the courts and therefore we decided to go back to the drawing board to see what we can do” he added.Meanwhile, JOY-BUSINESS has also learnt a meeting today for UNICOF members in Accra and Tema to strategize on ways to continue with the industrial action has also been called off.
