A group of assembly members in the Ashanti region have declared support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Nana Akufo Addo.
The over three hundred and fifty members, forming the NPP Assembly Members Volunteers group, say they will target floating voters to ensure the party clinches victory in the December polls.
Communications Manager for the group, Daniel Asenso-Agyemang dismissed criticisms that assembly members are barred by the 1992 constitution from engaging in party politics.
“…If anyone criticizes assembly members for belonging to some particular party and declaring [support for] it, then its unfortunate,” Mr Asenso-Agyemang stated.
He maintained that “the constitution does not forbid us from doing politics”, saying that outside the assemblies, they are free to join any party and declare support for it.
