Businessman and owner of Antrak Air, Alhaji Asuma Banda says the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority should be held responsible for the closure of Kumasi Airport.
According to Alhaji Asuma Banda, some domestic air carriers operate extremely heavy jets at the country’s domestic airports.
At a news conference on Tuesday, Alhaji Asuma Banda explained the runways at the Kumasi airport were not created to accommodate heavy aircrafts but have been allowed to land and takeoff at the airport.
He said the GCAA should have known better before licensing these companies.
He also threatened demonstration if the GCAA does not halt the operations of these heavy jets at the Kumasi and Takoradi Airports.
Meanwhile the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has denied that the bad state of the Kumasi Airport runway was the result of heavy aircrafts operating there.
Director General of the Authority, Air commodore Kwame Mamphy said the decision to close the Airport was to ensure protection of the lives of passengers and persons who use the country’s airports.
