Staff at the Electoral Commission are pushing for the prosecution of their former boss Charlotte Osei who was sacked last July over incompetence and stated misbehaviour.

In a four-page petition, the members of staff have drawn the attention of the Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu to what they claim to acts of criminality by Mrs Osei which must be investigated and prosecuted.

The petition is a rehash of the allegations which were forwarded to the Chief Justice and which formed the basis for her dismissal.  The report recommending her sack stated;

 "The procurement activities include the engagement of Sory@Law and Associates for the Commission, the award of several contracts to STL, the two contracts for the partitioning and consultancy service of the new office block, the three contracts awarded for the construction of pre-fabricated district offices of the Commission and consultancy services thereof; the two contracts awarded to Dreamoval Ltd,

"… and finally the two contracts awarded to Quazar Limited from South Africa. Evidence before the committee showed that all these contracts were awarded by Mrs. Charlotte Osei contrary to the Public Procurement Act”.

The petition signed by Forson Ampofo and Godsway Dadzo becomes the second petition asking for prosecution of the former EC  boss.

A civil soceity organisation Centre for National Affairs petitioned the Special Prosecutor in July asking for prosecution of Charlotte Osei and the two other commissioners, Georgina Amankwa and Amadu Sulley, who were also removed as recommended by the Chief Justice's investigative committee.

The CNA argued, it is not enough to remove the three commissioners because sacking a public officer for wrong doing is not punishment.

"If a teacher for example is convicted of rape how could it be a punishment to order him to stop going to school to teach? This is how farcical it is when commissioners indicted in the commission of crimes are simply told to go home", the CNA statement to the media read.

Myjoyonline.com has learnt, the Special Prosecutor has acknowledged receipt of the CNA petition but asked that the copy of the CJ's report is presented to him.

CNA has complied and the Special Prosecutor is said to be studying the report for possible prosecution.
