Kwabena Danso, the young man who is helping a rural community in Ghana through the manufacturing of bicycles using bamboo has received support from Airtel Ghana to further enhance his work.Kwabena Danso was featured on the second season of Airtel Touching Lives and he runs the Yonso Project, a rural community development based organization which works to improve educational and economic opportunities in rural Ghana.Airtel Ghana decided to support Mr. Danso with some materials needed for the Bambike, a bicycle whose frame is made from bamboo, and a pick-up truck.The Corporate Relations Manager of Airtel Ghana, Kwame Gyan said in a statement that Airtel Ghana is always happy to lend a hand to individuals and organizations through its Touching Lives program who are engaged in activities that are sustainable and further assist in helping others.“What we found out before choosing Kwabena as a beneficiary of our second season of Touching Lives was that the project he was involved in was offering a lot of hope for the people of Yonso and its environs and that was very commendable”, he said.Mr. Gyan added that he hoped the good work begun by Kwabena Danso would be emulated by other young people to help their communities.He noted with delight that through the making of the bicycles, Kwabena Danso is creating jobs for young people and the income generated is used in some of the projects that the Yonso project is involved in.
Receiving the keys and documents to the brand new pick-up truck and materials from Airtel Ghana, Kwabena Danso expressed his appreciation to Airtel Ghana.“In fact, it is one of the most amazing things that have happened to me. I am so grateful for this donation. Since I got the pick-up, we have extended the areas of our operations from seven communities to twelve and are able to make deliveries to a lot more areas,” he said.
