A leading member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kakra Essamuah has sneered at what he says is an attempt by the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to eulogise former President Jerry Rawlings.
According to him, members of the opposition party have suddenly metamorphosed into spokespersons for Mr. Rawlings who in recent times has heavily criticized the NDC.
Addressing a mammoth crowd at the delegate's congress of the breakaway National Democratic Party (NDP), in Kumasi Saturday, Jerry Rawlings said the ruling party will be rocked by a proper revolution after the elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Kakra Essamuah bemoaned what he says is the ingratitude of the Rawlingses to the NDC.
He noted that members of the ruling party sacrificed a lot to ensure the safety and well-being of the former first couple in the eight year rule of the NPP.
Kakra Essamuah added that the NDC has no qualms with Jerry Rawlings supporting his wife’s political ambition and will continue to accord him the needed respect as the party founder.
However, he expressed shock at the conduct of members of the NPP whom he says have taken utterances of Mr. Rawlings as the gospel truth.
He noted that the seeming association of the NPP with the Rawlingses has confirmed rumours that the largest opposition party is behind the formation of the NDP.
Lawyer Essamuah indicated that NDP does not pose any threat to the second term bid of the NDC to continue its Better Ghana Agenda.
On the contrary, NPP Director of Communications, Nana Akomea said former President Rawlings’ comments about the NDC is enough justification for Ghanaians to vote the ruling party out of power.
He observed that Mr. Rawlings as founder of the NDC will not conceal the corruption in the party until the culprits are punished.
Nana Akomea said the corruption charges level against the NDC by Jerry Rawlings vindicates the NPP.
