The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has challenged NDC stalwart Afrifa Yamoah Ponko to provide cogent evidence to support his claim that Nana Akufo-Addo planned to assassinate former President Jerry Rawlings in Kumasi.Yamoah Ponko on Adom FM alleged that the NPP flag-bearer in 2008 hired armed men to kill the former President in Kumasi following his [Rawlings] frontline role in the elections. The Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive alleged that he was personally present at the Golden Tulip Hotel when the armed men stormed the hotel in 2008 and according to him; it took the intervention of persons close by to foil the plot. But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Nana Akomea challenged Yamoah Ponko to hand over the evidence to the police to ensure Nana Addo is prosecuted for attempted murder.According to him, the NDC has been badly hit by the historic meeting between its party founder and the NPP flag-bearer and thus will do everything possible to muddy the waters.Nana Akomea could not fathom why close to four years Yamoah Ponko did not report the issue which bothered on criminality to the police and is now making it an issue after he [Nana] met with Jerry Rawlings. The NPP Director of Communications stated the Ejisu-Juaben MCE is a discredited character who is not fit to occupy any public office in the country. He alleged that Yamoah Ponko as the Ashanti regional coordinator of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was caught on tape exploiting young girls before employing them.Nana Akomea indicated that Ejisu-Juaben MCE will contribute gravely to the electoral defeat of the NDC hence the party must take steps to bring him to order. He added that Yamoah Ponko’s fabrication is meant to play on the sensibilities of the Rawlingses hence should be treated with the contempt that it deserves. The NPP man said the NDC should commend the two political leaders for setting a good example for posterity rather than condemning them for political expediency. He observed that political parties must not see other parties as enemies but rather opponents to ensure lasting peace in the country.Nana Akomea stressed that the NPP remain focus and will not allow any trivialities emanating from the camp of NDC to ruin its chances of winning the December polls.
