October 11, 2012, Odumase-Krobo: The people of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern Region are requesting that the Electoral Commission comes out with its plans on the assembly elections in the area which has been on hold for nearly two years now.
They said since the EC was quick in conducting the Biometric Voters Registration exercise in the affected electoral areas at Akuse immediately after the Supreme Court’s ruling on the regional boundary dispute which caused the delay, it should by now have in place a clear time table for the elections which should be made known to the public, particularly the Krobo citizenry.
A letter dated October 8, 2012 to the Electoral Commissioner, signed by Dr. Edward Narh, President of the Manya Klo Foundation and Mr. Philip Tetteh Padi, Commissioner of Kloma Gbi indicated that though the regional boundary dispute which caused the suspension was resolved by the Supreme Court on June 13, 2012 and subsequently paved way for the conduct of the hitherto suspended Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) exercise in the disputed electoral areas, the EC has as yet shown no signs of ever conducting the elections which was supposed to have been done in December 2010.
Dr. Narh said “We cannot continue to remain in the dark and be silent on this issue which is so dear to the hearts of the Krobo citizenry. It is critical and must be handled with a sense of urgency; as such we are requesting that the EC comes out to educated us and tell the public when it intends to conduct the elections”.
