Government has slammed the Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas which claims the Ghana Gas Company has been acting in violation of procurement laws. Dr. Steve Manteaw, Chairman of the Civil Society Platform made the allegations during the IEA evening with encounter with President John Mahama yesterday and called for investigations into the matter. But the company has described the allegations as lies and irresponsible. It says it has not breached the country’s procurement laws in its dealing with Sinopec, a company supplying vital equipment to the Ghana Gas Company. Board chairman of the Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Kwesi Botchwey told Joy News if the group had made any effort to verify the allegations, they would not have gone public with what they think are falsehood. He maintained that there have not been any “hidden procurement practices” at the Ghana Gas Company. According to him, every act of procurement the company undertakes has been undertaken in strict accordance with the country’s law. He maintained: “We have absolutely no problem with any investigations.” He has therefore challenged the Civil Society Platform to provide evidence to back their claims.
