A group of investors have arrived in the Eastern Region to prospect for investment opportunities upon request by the Regional Minister, Ambassador Smith during his visit to the state of Michigan in the USA a couple of weeks ago.Speaking on the purpose of their visit to the Eastern Region, leader of the delegation Mr Giuseppe Ardissone of COSAP Group said they came as representatives of a group of investors in Michigan to have firsthand knowledge of the region to enable them determine the kind of investment opportunities it presents.He said the team will visit the Kwahu area through to the Afram Plains end of the Volta River as well as other parts of the region during their one week familiarization visit, adding that the Daasebre Nana Baomah Vocational Training School which is being constructed in Kukurantumi and facilitated by Ambassador Smith will be adopted by the group to enable them train technical people for their various investments.Mr Ardissone further added that their group consists of investors mainly in the agriculture and engineering sectors so graduates from the training school will be absorbed on completion of their courses thereby creating jobs and reducing poverty in the Abuakwa North area.“We are here to see what kind of investment opportunities this region has for ourselves and also inform other members of our group, but we were particularly encouraged by the leadership qualities of Ambassador Smith and his zeal to see his people progress,” he noted.Ambassador Smith later led the team to the offices of the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana (CRIG) in New Tafo, Akim where they interacted with the Executive Director Dr F.M Amoah on issues bothering investment opportunities in the cocoa sector in the region.The Regional Minister on his part stated that he will ensure the region derived full benefits from its natural and human resources, further disclosing that another team will also be visiting to determine the possibility of constructing bio-digester stations which will convert liquid and solid waste into electricity to power households in some institutions in the region.He said the team from the University of Michigan will liaise with the Koforidua Polytechnic and other Senior High Technical Schools in the region on arrival and added that, he envisages the bio-digester plants system will help curb problems associated with electricity especially in the eastern Region.
