As at 22:25hours last night, Tigo Ghana’s facebook page was comfortably in the lead in terms of telco fan base on facebook, with 101,861 likes with 18,892 talking about the page.
Vodafone Ghana was next with 74,634 likes, and 7,143 talking about their page; meanwhile, Vodafone Ghana World of Difference also had an additional 1,482 likes but a paltry 25 talking about that page.
Market leader MTN Ghana follows Vodafone with 57,514 likes, and 6,696 talking about their page.
Fourth place Airtel, also maintained the fourth highest facebook fan base with some 11,107 likes and 756 talking about the page.
Glo Ghana follows with 5,725 likes and 109 persons talking about it; and Expresso come in sixth with 110 likes, and only four talking about their facebook page.
Meanwhile, each of the GSM operators has other adjoining facebook pages for specific aspects of their interests, including local business, fan page, CSR and others. But all those put together, does not make any much difference in the positioning.
Tigo Ghana recently announced it had 60,000 fans on facebook, and it only took a couple of months for the company to rake in over 40,000 fans to cross the 100,000th mark.
Head of Marketing at Tigo, Tenu Awoonor thinks “this recent feat shows that Tigo is a youthful, fun and lively brand and one that understands and connects very well with the youth.”
“We believe our overall track record and particularly our recent brand positioning as demonstrated the change of our tagline from ‘Express yourself’ to’ Smile, you’ve got Tigo!’ has really been embraced by our customers,” he said.
He said Tigo owes it record fan base on Facebook to its fans and customers, adding “we appreciate their loyalty and express our profound gratitude to everyone who made this happen.”
Awoonor urged customers and fans to stick with the brand that understands their needs and provides them with excellent products and services.
He also noted that the local launch of Tigo’s major CSR initiative ‘Reach for Change’ aimed at unearthing and supporting two Social Entrepreneurs with a salary of $25,000 a year for a period of three years to help transform the lives of children has gone a long way to help in this achievement.
The Head of Marketing said as part of activities to celebrate this milestone with fans, Tigo has planned a number of surprises, which will excite fans and reward them for their loyalty.
“We encourage our customers to visit and like the Tigo Ghana facebook page because it has more surprises and unbeatable packages for everyone. Tigo wishes to reiterate its devotion to all by churning out more value-added services and products to satisfy customer needs,” the statement said.
Tigo is the premier telecommunication service provider in Ghana, and currently the third largest network by subscribers, commanding some 15% market share as at August ending this year.
