The Upper West Regional Minister, Ambassador Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani has said the next NDC administration will have no choice but to maintain youth employment as a topmost priority.
He said failure will derail significant gains made by the Mills/Mahama-led administration to economically empower the youth to make an ends meet.
The Regional Minister was speaking at a ceremony to graduate 537 youth at Wa.
The graduands are beneficiaries of the ICT Module under the erstwhile National Youth Employment programme now known as the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
They had undergone six-month intensive training in ICT, Mobile phone, Laptop repairs and Entrepreneurship.
The training were offered by the RLG Institute of technology, a subsidiary of RLG Communications.
The trainees were drawn from Lambussie-Karni, Wa Municipality, Tumu and Jirapa zones of GYEEDA.
He said since assuming office in 2009, government had spent substantial amounts to ensure the youth are properly engaged to be economically productive and that any draw-up will be catastrophic.
The Regional Director of GYEEDA, Nuruudeen Saani described a recent World Bank decision to grant GYEEDA $36m as a vote of confidence in government’s quest to secure the country’s youth.
The Head of RLG Institute of Technology, Isaac Appiah congratulated the trainees for successfully undergoing the programme and hoped they will put knowledge acquired to good use.
The ceremony was chaired by the Jagdong Naa, Naa Mohaammed Yahaya Hamidu.
