The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority has suspended the recent hikes in storage charges at the ports.
The Authority in its bid to reduce overcrowding at the ports reviewed the number of days for storage from 7 to 4 and increased charges by 100 percent.
The move did not go down well with businesses and the Association of Ghana Industries which argued the increase will only worsen the high cost of doing business in the country.
Kumi Adjei Sam, the Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority told Joy Business they consulted widely before deciding to suspend the hikes for now.
“…We will go through the processes again and by the end of the year, we’ll come up with the final decision,” he stated.
Mr. Sam also denied claims that the move was just meant to rake in more revenue instead of decongesting the port.
