Pioneer Food Cannery, producers of STAR KIST tuna and other canned fish products, have resumed operations and recalled almost 1,800 workers sent home.
This was after water supply was restored at its factory over the weekend. The company last week shut down its operations and asked the workers to go home indefinitely.
This was as a result of irregular water supply to the firm and others at the Free Zones enclave in Tema. The closure also affected other businesses that provide services to the company.
Acting Head of Human Resources Nana Yaw Amarka Otchere told JOYBUSINESS the resumption should help the company recover quickly what they have lost over the past few days.
“…For us it means we have to work around the clock, we have to work harder so that we meet our orders before the Christmas break.”
He also mentioned that measures were being put in place to ensure that such a situation doesn’t affect their operations badly.
The company was said to be losing some hundred thousand dollars daily as a result of the shut down.
Pioneer Food Cannery also produces the popular JON WEST tuna for the European market and British retailer, Marks and Spencer.
