The Anglican Bishop of the Koforidua Diocese, Right Reverend Quarshie, last Sunday called for more efforts in the fight against the HIV/ AIDS menace because the virus is still a threat to mankind.
He said despite many interventions, reports and other developments showed that the prevalence rate kept on soaring, particularly in the Eastern Region.
Addressing the opening of a three-day HIV/AIDS workshop for Mothers Union in the Koforidua Diocese, the bishop urged the participants to use the knowledge acquired seriously in the prevention efforts.
Bishop Quarshie also stressed the need for victims of the virus to be cared for and treated in a manner that would make them feel like any other human beings.
He expressed concern about the promiscuous lifestyle and unacceptable behaviour of the youth in the face of the HIV menace and appealed to women to use their motherly role to educate them.
The President of the Diocesan Mothers Union, Mrs Mary Appiah-Tuffuor, said the training was to afford members the opportunity to learn more on the pandemic so that they could also contribute their quota in the fight against its spread.
She told the women not to shy away from HIV/AIDS victims but show them motherly love and even play the role of mothers to those who had been neglected by their families.
