Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been pitted against Sony Ela Nguema of Equatorial Guinea in the preliminary round of the 2013 CAF Champions League.The Ghana premier league champions will host Sony Nguema at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for the first leg of the competition on the weekend of February 15, 2013, before the second leg, which takes place the weekend March 1, 2013, in Equatorial Guinea.The Porcupine Warriors have from now until February to prepare to face the most successful of the Equatoguinean champions, who have 13 league titles to their credit and have participated in the CAF Champions league on five different occasions.Asante Kotoko, who have not played in the money zone of the Champions league since 2006, hope to make their mark on the tournament.“The league will serve as a preparatory ground for us and I believe by the time we face them, we'll have the arsenals to eliminate them,” said Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani in an interview with Joy SportsThe winner will face the winner of the JSM Bejala (Algeria) vs. Olympique FC de Niamey (Niger) duel in the 1/16 round.In a related development, 2012 MTN FA Cup winners New Edubiase will have to wait for some time before learning which Congolese opponents they will face in the CAF Confederation Cup.
