The Ghana Football Association Normalisation Committee has rendered an unqualified apology after one of its members insulted a journalist during a press briefing on Wednesday.
Duah Adonteng reacted furiously after veteran journalist Ekow Asmah questioned why the gathering was asked to clap for him when he walked in late to the event.
Mr Asmah queried why the spokesperson of the Normalisation Committee, Dan Kweku Yeboah, had asked the gathering to clap for Mr Adonteng.
"Let's put our hands together for lawyer Dua Adonteng a member of the committee, he is a legal practitioner so he had to attend some meetings...," Mr Yeboah said.
"Did you say we should clap for him, for coming late, or?" Mr Asmah queried during the Question and Answer segment of the briefing.
He added: "...I didn't appreciate that we were asked to clap for him since he came very late... About one hour late and the reason I am going on that tangent.”
"Remember the day, the normalisation committee was outdoored, members of the media were waiting in the sun for about two and a half hours before it started. Punctuality is very important.”
A furious Mr Adonteng interrupted him, replying: "You don't know what you are talking about... I am not interested in this stupidity".
That led some heated exchanges.
The pair later apologised to each other after being advised to do so by the President of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana, Mr Kwabena Yeboah.
But the incident is still on the talk board with Mr Adonteng heavily criticised by the public.
However, the Normalisation Committee has released an official statement, signed by vice president Mrs Lucy Quist, apologising on behalf of the legal practitioner.
The Committee say they "believe in treating each other and all other stakeholders with respect, this includes respect to each other's time".
"We are counting on all stakeholders to work with us to reform the beautiful game of football in Ghana" they added.
The Normalisation Committee were appointed by FIFA to run Ghana Football Association in the aftermath of Anas Aremeyaw Anas' Number 12 documentary.
Their mandate includes organising and conducting elections of a GFA executive committee on the basis of the revised GFA statutes.
Below is the full statement.
