Huawei Technologies (GH) S.A Ltd has donated bags, books, and stationeries worth GHC20,000 to support the Presidential Encounter with well-behaved students.
This is the fourth year the company is making this donation, since 2009.
The Presidential Encounter was initiated by the late President John Evans Atta Mills to engage about 300 students from all 10 regions of Ghana every year.
A statement from Huawei said the consistent support for the presidential encounter with students is part of its corporate social responsibility towards education.
“The main purpose of the donation was to motivate the students to be self-disciplined,” the statement said.
It said Huawei believes that education is a key factor for national development for which reason it will continue to support any educational initiative that falls within its CSR objectives.
The company said by the end of February 2013, it would donate an ICT laboratory to The University of Development Studies as the forth ICT laboratory for four universities namely University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, University of Cape Coast and University of Development Studies.
“After the donation, Huawei will offer extensive ICT training for the various ICT coordinators of the universities. There are also several CRS activities slated for 2013 demonstrating Huawei’s commitment to contribute back to the society in which we operate,” it said.
