The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to independently investigate the activities of Ghanaian football officials in the Number 12 video.

In a statement signed by the National Organiser, Kofi Adams, the party said: “the ban of the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) boss Kofi Nyantakyi by FIFA after months of rigorous investigations raises serious questions about the involvement of President Akuffo Addo in the bribery scandal.”

The NDC explained that if FIFA acted based on the Anas Number 12 video and had investigations done, then the same can be done in Ghana.

The Number 12 video is a Tiger Eye PI production that exposes various corrupt activity in Ghana's football industry -- from influencing a match to sponsorship for the industry.

The video captured numerous GFA top officials, referees and match commissioners receiving bribes to influence the outcome of one match or the other.

FIFA, after the release of the video, suspended Mr Nyantakyi until further investigations were done to prove his guilt or innocence. 

On October 30, FIFA released a statement banning the former GFA boss for life from all football-related activities.

“This brings to the fall once again the need for the criminal investigations department to inform Ghanaians the state of their investigations into the scandal which has tarnished the image of Ghanaians and Ghana,” the NDC stated.

Meanwhile, Samson Lardi, a private practitioner, speaking on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Wednesday said that it may be difficult for Ghana's law enforcement agencies to convict Mr. Nyantakyi based on the activities in the video alone.

“We have seen a video of a man who is boasting of his ability to do one thing or the other because of his alleged connections to the corridors of power, going through the criminal laws of Ghana, I clearly cannot find any crime in that kind of talk,” he stated.
